Deposit Return Scheme for plastic bottles, aluminium and steel cans launching 1st February, 2024
Ireland’s new Deposit Return Scheme will go live on 1 February, 2024. Under the scheme, when the consumer buys an ‘in scope’ drink from the retailer featuring the Re-turn logo, they pay a small deposit in addition to the retail price. This deposit must be refunded in full by the Retailer when the consumer returns the empty, undamaged drinks container to the Reverse Vending Machine.

– Cans cannot be crushed as it would obscure the special bar code.
– Complete cans and bottles only .
– The new bar codes are being phased in on a gradual basis.
– Machines are being installed in all participating retail stores to be ready for launch.
