The Dig at St.Crispin’s Cell – Rathdown Heritage Site

Community Led Archaeological Excavation
St. Crispin’s Cell: Rathdown Heritage Site, Greystones
5th – 9th November 2018

 

Following a geophysical survey indicating that rich history of the past may be unearthed in this area, Greystones Tidy Towns and Redford Park and St. Crispin’s Residents’ Association have initiated an archaeological dig in this Medieval Settlement – just north of Greystones and protected under the National Monuments Act. Human habitation dating back to the early Neolithic period has been detected in the area and we now seek your participation in getting further knowledge of our common past.

Monday 5th to Friday 9th November
Mornings from 09.30 to 13.00
Afternoons from 14.00 to 16.30
Minimum contribution one half day – no prior experience is required. Wear appropriate outdoor work attire and drinking water.
Minimum 16 years of age to participate.

The excavation is promoted and supported by the Heritage Department Wicklow County Council and is part-funded by the ‘Creative Wicklow’ Grant Scheme 2018 and Facilitated by the Irish Archaeology Consultants Ltd. (IAC).
